Who’s who in Bramble Bay

Meet Barnaby & Friends

One grumpy cat, and the friends who keep turning up whether he likes it or not.

A grey tabby cat: Barnaby

Barnaby

Barnaby is the grumpiest cat in Bramble Bay. He has one torn ear, a permanent scowl and a deep love of being left alone. He doesn’t purr, doesn’t share and certainly doesn’t do friends… although, one story at a time, he is learning that a little kindness goes a long way. He is still not a sweet cat. But he’s getting there.

A young seagull: Pip

Pip

Pip has bright yellow feet, a spotless white chest and a hopeless habit of talking far too much. He adores fish, adventures and making new friends — whether they want to be friends or not. Pip is small, but his long, slim beak and quick wings get him into (and out of) all sorts of places.

Three field mice: Pipkin, Penny & Peanut

Pipkin, Penny & Peanut

Three tiny field mice who turn up soaked and shivering on the rim of Barnaby’s box. Pipkin is the bravest, Penny wears a pink bow, and Peanut is the smallest of all. They are polite, hardworking and brilliant at squeezing through gaps — very handy when you need to build a den.

A floppy-eared pup: The Puppy

The Puppy

A bouncy puppy with big brown eyes, a bright red collar and a tail that wags like a windscreen wiper. He thinks everyone is his friend, especially grumpy cats in bowler hats. He’s also a surprisingly good climber.

The puppy, now grown into a big dog

…and by winter, he isn’t so little anymore. His paws have grown huge — perfect for digging a grumpy cat out of the snow.
